Arts festival nets worldwide attention through the web

Donald Anderson, the city's culture and tourism leader, said he was delighted to hear that the event had prompted a response from other community arts projects from around the world. He said: "This sounds like an amazing initiative and it builds on the strong tradition of innovative cultural activities that have taken place in Craigmillar throughout the years. " It is also great to see that it has attracted a lot of interest from across the globe and we will now have to wait and see what happens on the day."

A green circle
A logo has been produced which is simple and can be developed in many ways.

Please use and pass on.

A circle is one of the basic shape in the world. It is a very efficient way of passing on and conserving energy. It is one of the fundamental shapes in the arts and can be applied to many things. There is no top or bottom to it.

Original invitation email from 11/06.

We wish to start a World Community Arts Day, on 17 Feb 2007, to raise awareness of how Community Art is a Global movement, its history, present
day activities and the future.

For the first year and to get things started we are starting by asking those who are connected with the Craigmillar Festival Society as we
know this group of friends is worldwide. Of course Community Arts is much bigger than this, so if others wish to join us, that would be
great too. So hopefully it will generate a much bigger picture. We are asking individuals, organisations, groups of people to an event
in their own community to mark this day.

The event could could just be a gesture, ongoing event/workshop/artwok or a larger event: So it could be:
1. Ongoing project you wish to highlight.
2. A website or discussion group
3. A small or large gathering
4. A walk or art performance
5. A Exhibition or art class
6. A Poem
7. A Theatre Performance
8. A Reading
9. A Mural
10. Online projects
etc

The only criteria is that the Art "must be a catalyst for social change and caring".

It would be Art in its widest form and include all the artforms plus more.

These are all linked by a communal email that goes out before to press and friends, where all the events are listed.
So in theory, this will not cost anything. If this worked out, it could be developed. So if you want to be part of this please contact us.
